Point Lonsdale

The small seaside haven of Point Lonsdale is about five kilometres by road from Queenscliff, or a pleasant beach walk around Lonsdale Bay via the Point Lonsdale promenade. The pram and wheelchair friendly promenade is great for families or the elderly too. You won’t find grand facades and big hotels in “Lonnie”. Nestled among the ti tree Point Lonsdale remains a peaceful hideaway without the traffic and crowds of other resort towns.

One of Point Lonsdale’s attractions are the wonderful beaches. It boasts a safe and sheltered swimming beach and just over the dunes is the Point Lonsdale Back Beach, very popular with surfers and patrolled by lifeguards during the summer season.

Beneath the majestic Point Lonsdale Lighthouse children and adults alike will enjoy a rockpool ramble at low tide, followed by a visit to find the infamous William Buckley’s cave. This escaped convict lived with the Wathaurong Aboriginal people between 1803 and 1835 and according to legend, sheltered in a cave below where the Lighthouse stands today. Climb to the very top of the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse on a guided tour, or watch the ships entering Port Phillip Heads from the Rip View Lookout and carpark.
